Bingo Cake. - process 1

Ingredients

Method

  1. 1.Using a 33 x 23 cm rectangular cake tin, bake the two cake mixes together to make one cake. Once baked, let the cake cool, then level the top with a sharp knife.
  2. 2.Print out the three pages of Bingo’s outlines onto A4 paper (linked above). Neatly cut around her body pieces, eye pieces, inner ears, and nose.
  3. 3.For the frosting: beat the butter for at least five minutes until pale and smooth. Beat in the vanilla, then slowly add in the icing sugar on a low setting. Halfway through, add in the heavy cream to make it easier to mix. Add more cream if necessary.
  4. 4.Take out 2 heaped tablespoons of frosting and use food colouring to dye it purple. Take out a further 1/2 cup of frosting, and colour it turquoise blue. Divide the remaining frosting into thirds. Colour one third dark orange, one third light orange, and leave one third uncoloured.
  5. 5.Lay out the cake on a board. Using the two print-outs of Bingo’s body, cut her outline out of the cake with a sharp knife.
  6. 6.Using the reference image as a guide, use an icing pen to outline where the different colours of frosting will go. Crumb coat Bingo with a thin layer of light orange, dark orange, and uncoloured frosting. Crumb coat the headphones with the purple and turquoise frosting. Put the cake in the fridge.
  7. 7.Meanwhile, roll out the white, black, and chocolate fondant with a rolling pin. Use icing sugar to dust the fondant as you go, to prevent sticking.
  8. 8.Using the stencils, cut Bingo’s nose out of the chocolate fondant. Out of the white and black fondant, cut out three pieces for each eye: the black outlines, the whites of the eyes, and the black pupils.
  9. 9.Use the inner ear stencils to cut out two pieces of syrup waffles. Cut the rainbow sour straps into pieces that will fit on either side of the headphones as decoration.
  10. 10.Get the cake back out. Give the body and headphones a final coat of frosting, using the reference image as a guide.
  11. 11.Add the syrup waffle pieces to the inner ears. Use the uncoloured frosting to pipe on her eyebrows over the top.
  12. 12.Carefully place the fondant eyes and nose onto the cake, using a little frosting as glue. Use the uncoloured frosting to pipe on the nose reflection.
  13. 13.Place the pieces of rainbow sour strap on either side of the headphones.
  14. 14.Finally, using a toothpick, outline Bingo’s body and features by etching lines into the frosting. Use the reference image as a guide, ensuring you go around the fingers, mouth, toes and tail.
  15. 15.Enjoy your Bingo cake!
