Going to the beach? While you explore rock pools and see the plants and animals that live in them, why not make an ocean garden to get an extra look up close? And always remember to put everything back before you leave!
What you’ll need:
- Clear bucket or vessel to contain your ocean garden. Make sure it’s see through!
- Gloves to protect against sharp objects or stingers
- A grown-up to help you. Don't do this on your own!
What to do:
- 1.Have fun jumping the waves and wait for a moment to collect some water and sand in your bucket.
- 2.Now it’s time to add some personality to your garden. Go on a treasure hunt on the beach, looking for beautiful shells, rocks and seaweed to add to your garden.
- 3.After you’ve added in your treasures, the water will look a little murky. While you wait for the sediment to settle, go for a swim or explore the beach. Maybe there’s some rockpools with crabs or star fish!
- 4.Now, it’s time to check out your ocean garden!
- 5.Remember to tip your ocean gardens back into the water before you leave the beach to prevent environmental disruption!
Safety reminder: Make sure there’s an adult with you when you’re making your ocean gardens!
