It began in Vancouver in August 1975. Robyn Williams was there as a lone reporter for the ABC. Neither Robyn nor his guests could have imagined their chats would be relevant, even more relevant, fifty years later. But that’s exactly what has happened.
Biodiversity, the threat of nuclear destruction, and our impact on the atmosphere leading to changing climate were the concerns of scientists in the 1970s, long before some of today’s doubters were born.
This week’s program is a special selection of Science Show highlights over the decades: The exposure of scientific fraud and government backed environmental destruction. Warnings of the danger of asbestos and the programs which convinced some young listeners that science would be where they would take their careers.
And the fun, including a classic by John Clarke’s character Fred Dagg, the New Zealand sheep farmer who helps us with the big questions: what is it all about and why are we here?
