  • Genocide Scholars Resolution

    ABC Radio News, News Channel and News Digital: On 2 September separate reports on the resolution by the International Association of Genocide Scholars declaring Israeli actions in Gaza as genocide both reported that a majority of the scholars voted in favour of the resolution. In fact, of the association's 500 members, 28 per cent took part in the vote. Of those, 86 per cent voted in favour of the resolution. 

  • Bob Katter and Josh Bavas

    Insiders: On the Insiders episode broadcast on 31 of August the panel discussed Independent MP Bob Katter’s threatening behaviour towards Nine journalist Josh Bavas at a press conference in Brisbane. During the discussion news.com.au journalist Samantha Maiden said the two had a conversation before the press conference about what was going to be asked and suggested Mr Bavas was warned not to ask about Mr Katter's Lebanese heritage. The ABC wishes to clarify that no conversation took place. Insiders apologises for the error. The comment has been removed from the on-demand versions of the program.

  • Nasser Hospital victims

    ABC News channel: On 27 August, during an interview with an ABC reporter it was reported that the IDF had not named six people it alleged were terrorists killed in a strike at the Nasser hospital on August 25. The IDF had named the men but had not provided evidence as to their links to Hamas.

  • Pedestrian Deaths

    News: On August 20 in an article on recent Federal government statistics on the road toll inaccurately suggested that e-scooters and e-bikes played a significant part in the rise in pedestrian deaths.  This included the misleading implication that eight people killed in e-scoooter related deaths in Queensland were pedestrians, when the fatalities were in fact the riders of e-scooters.

  • High Court Judgement

    ABC News ACT: An online article published on August 6, 2025, incorrectly stated that the High Court had upheld a finding of unfair dismissal by the Fair Work Commission relating to sacked Helensburgh Coal workers. The court had instead been asked to rule on the reach of the Fair Work Act. The story has since been updated to correctly reflect the scope of the High Court's decision that the Fair Work Commission was permitted to inquire into whether an employer could have made changes to how it uses its workforce, so as to make positions available for employees who would otherwise have been redundant.

  • Tim Wilson correction

    Insiders: On the 17th of August Insiders published a headline on YouTube, Facebook and the ListenApp that was incorrectly attributed to the Shadow Employment Minister Tim Wilson. The ABC wishes to clarify that this was a production error. An ABC correspondent said “Vladimir Putin outfoxed Donald Trump” not the shadow minister. This comment has been amended on all platforms. Insiders apologises for the error.

  • South Australia Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence

    ABC News: A story which ran in South Australia's 7PM bulletin on August 19, regarding the state's Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence, included vision of a group of members of the public in a way which suggested they were family members of a person who died due to a recent domestic violence incident. That is not the case. The video has been updated to remove the vision in question.

  • West Bank Settlements expansion

    The World Today: on August 15 the introduction and online description of the so-called E1 project near Jerusalem on the West Bank of Palestine was reported as potentially including thousands of ‘settlements’. It should have said ‘houses’. The content has been removed. 

  • WA Bauxite Emissions

    News: on August 14 News Online published a story on the proposed expansion to Alcoa's bauxite mining in WA. The story reported that the proposal would result in the release of the equivalent of three years' worth of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions. However, it failed to include that the majority of those emissions would be overseas in the offshore processing of the bauxite into aluminium.

  • Football club

    ABC News Victoria: An article was published on Saturday 26 July regarding a sex offender keeping time at a junior football match. In the story, two images were used of the White Hill Football Netball Club. The junior football match was actually conducted by the White Hills Junior Football Club which is an entirely separate entity to the White Hills Football Netball Club.

  • Australian cuttlefish hatchlings

    ABC News: Radio bulletins that played on ABC Radio, on July 31 2025, stated that the director of Eyre Lab, a not-for-profit which promotes awareness of restoration ecology, “has backed a recommendation made by The Biodiversity Council to save cuttlefish hatchlings in the Upper Spencer Gulf by shifting eggs.” This was incorrect. The Biodiversity Council only recommends the state government undertakes an investigation into the proposal.

  • Covid-19 Deaths

    News: On June 2 ABC News published an article based on an embargoed statement from the Burnet Institute stating that there had been 3,696 coronavirus-related deaths in Australia in 2023 . However, the full paper subsequently published reported 6500 deaths

  • Crime related CCTV footage

    News Breakfast: A segment on 7 July 2025 included CCTV vision of several people sought for links to an alleged ‘contract crew’ involved in multiple incidents across NSW and QLD. During a live cross, the reporter mentioned a specific date of one of the incidents however, the video footage that aired at that time did not match the date he was referencing. The video has been removed from on-demand platforms. 

  • Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

    News Online. In article updating the Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs trial on 1 July an early version incorrectly stated that the accused pleaded guilty to the charges.

  • Ivory Dating Methods

    YouTube Shorts: A short video published on the ABC NEWS YouTube channel on June 25, 2025 incorrectly stated the method used to distinguish between legal mammoth ivory and illegal elephant ivory was radiocarbon dating, when the method used was in fact stable isotope analysis. The video has been removed

  • Shot hole borer

    ABC News: An online article was published on July 1 reporting shot-hole borer had been detected on Rottnest Island and there were concerns for the welfare of the island’s Moreton Bay figs. While remediation work is still ongoing, the initial detection was in 2022 and there is no imminent threat to the trees.

  • Joel Fitzgibbon and Arthur Sinodinos

    Afternoon Briefing: June 2 and June 12 Afternoon Briefing interviewed Joel Fitzgibbon and Arthur Sinodinos respectively on issues related to the AUKUS submarine contract with the USA and United Kingdom. The programs failed to reveal that they are the co-chairs of the AUKUS Forum Advisory Board a body that represents industries and companies seeking to participate in the program.

  • Gaza boat video

    ABC News: A social media story on Instagram and Tik Tok on 9 June 2025 about the interception by the Israeli military of a boat carrying activists headed for Gaza included video posted by the Gaza Freedom Flotilla group. The video included an on-screen caption written by the group which identified the Israeli Defense Forces, IDF by the acronym, IOF (meaning Israel Occupation Forces). The activist group’s logo was obscured when the video was edited for the start of the ABC’s story. While the video was properly attributed later in the story, it did not adequately attribute the video and on-screen language to that group at the start and the posts have been removed.

  • Queensland government social housing rent reviews

    ABC News: An online story has been updated to make clear there are two income limits for social housing tenants in Queensland – one that applies to applicants and another that applies to existing tenants. The original story incorrectly suggested the income limits that apply to applicants also applies to existing tenants. The income limit for existing tenants is $80,000.

  • Afghanistan Tourism

    Asia Pacific Newsroom: An article posted on 30 May 2025 included a diversity of perspectives from people who chose to travel to Afghanistan despite the Government warnings against doing so. Context has been added to the story to better reflect a fair representation of the talent included and provide a more nuanced view from the people who chose travel to the region, including tourists, influencers and other workers.  

  • Oratory Competition

    ABC News NSW: An online article published on May 20, 2025, reported that the inaugural Dame Enid Lyons Oratory Competition was the first competition of its kind to include girls. The story has since been updated to reflect that a number of girls have in fact participated in the Lawrence Campbell Oratory Competition in recent years after two of the boys’ colleges part of the competition — Barker College and The Armidale School — accepted the enrolment of girls. 

  • Planet America Gaza death toll

    The Planet America episode that aired on 23 May 2025 included a question put to Academic Peter Beinart addressing a claim made by UN Spokesperson Tom Fletcher that “14,000 babies would be at risk of dying in Gaza within a 48-hour period due to starvation”. Since recording that interview, the claims have been clarified, with the statement being based on an IPC report that warned 14,100 severe cases of acute malnutrition were expected to occur between April 2025 and March 2026 among children aged between six months and five years. An on-air correction was issued on the programs episode on 30 May 2025.

  • Gaza aid footage

    ABC News Breakfast, News Channel: On 3 June, a story about Israeli forces firing on Palestinians near an aid distribution site in Gaza on Monday local time included old footage from a separate aid distribution site, which was recorded days earlier. The story has been removed from on-demand platforms. 

  • Mushroom trial charges

    News channel: During a live cross in the 5pm news bulletin on 2 June 2025, an ABC reporter covering the days findings at the Erin Patterson mushroom trial in Victoria misspoke, incorrectly summarising the charges against Erin Patterson. That video was initially uploaded to the ABC website and YouTube channel but has now been removed from both on-demand platforms. 

  • Paraglider Peng Yujiang

    ABC News: A story was published on 30 May 2025 about paraglider Peng Yujiang surviving after being sucked 8km into the air. This article included footage that was sourced via Reuters through China Central Television. This content has since been identified as containing AI generated elements, with the statement that Peng had possibly flown to 8000 metres and survived also not being able to be verified. Reuters has confirmed in a statement that “This content is clearly labelled as third-party content and is not verified or endorsed by Reuters”. The content has been removed from the ABC news website.
